Newcomers to the area have been flooding the Mount Allison University phone lines with accusations of racism after hearing that Mount Allison has a course that is critical of settlers and colonialists. Newcomer Omar recently told our Onion Reporter, “After settling in Tantramar I started hearing that Mount Allison teaches students that settling and colonization is bad so I started to feel very uncomfortable. And every time I was interested in buying a house the realtor told me that it was on unceded Mi’kmaq territory so I was hesitant to make the purchase.”

But Krista Johnston, professor of the Gender, Racialization and Settler Colonialism class clarified to the Onion that “These criticisms only applies to previous, white European settlers and colonizers, not the new settlers and colonizers of colour.”
