With the anticipated passing of Bill C-63 known as the Online Harms Act, the lack of capacity at the Dorchester penitentiary is a serious concern. “Our prison is pretty much at full capacity so in order to prepare for the expected increase in citizen-reported social media crimes of speaking freely we will be releasing a lot of criminals to make room.” said Emile Belliveau, assistant Warden.
A woman in Chilliwack, BC was recently arrested for her speech on X (formerly known as Twitter). And England is also releasing prisoners early.
The warden added, “With Elon Musk buying Twitter/X there is so much hate speech now that we anticipate quite a few people will be arrested and charged. Releasing criminals is all about safety. We can’t have people saying whatever they want on social media and saying things the government doesn’t like.”
